Trofeo Stecconi Quite like a pre-Worlds
Ancona, June 5, 2013 - Il Trofeo Stecconi has always been an important event for the Italian sailing. Actually, during in the days of racing, the ORCi boats will fight for the access to the Italian Championships, to be held in Ravenna at the end of July.
For over eight years, this event, organized by the SEF Stamura and dedicated to lawyer Stecconi, great local athlete and competitor, gathers attention and inscriptions.
But this year the three-day Trofeo Stecconi will be colored with a shade even more important: it will be a pre-World race, a sort of anticipation and at the same time a good training for those who then also participate in the Adria Ferries ORCi World Championship.
From June 14th to 16tn who will race for the Worlds can use the Stecconi as a practice, partly because the race course will be in front of the Passetto, the same that will be used for the main event.
The races of the Trofeo Stecconi will be held under ORC International rules, involving boats from 9 to 16 meters and using a mathematical formula to calculate the speed that every boat should have and therefore the time it should take to complete the race. You can compare a small boat with a great boat.
We reached by telephone Andrea Giorgetti, organizer of the event, that tells us: "We're really getting widespread entries from those who will race for the Championship. Be on stage before an event so important will give to us a turbo boost. At the moment the entry list count on 30 boats, but we are expecting double. Which means, considering a dozen people for each crew, at least 600 athletes coming in from Italy but also from other countries. An opportunity really important for Ancona. For this reason we have taken care of every detail of the organization. We have a good synergy with Marina Dorica we will provide forty places to moor boats".
Giorgetti also chat with an idea on the favorites: "Surely Alberto Rossi, with his new boat. And then Sandro and Piero Paniccia of Civitanova and Paolo Zoppi and Luciano Mastroianni of Ancona".
